Senior officials meet Kim to boost cooperation
Russia’s parliamentary speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and Defence Minister Andrei Belousov conducted high-level meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during separate visits to Pyongyang by senior Russian delegations. Volodin told Kim he would attend the opening ceremony of a newly built memorial honoring North Korean troops who fought in Ukraine and released footage of their encounter.
The meeting brought together senior officials from both sides, with discussions focusing on political cooperation, economic ties, and regional security issues.
Vyacheslav Volodin conveyed messages of continued partnership, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations amid shifting global dynamics.
The visit underscores growing engagement between Russia and North Korea, which have strengthened ties in recent years amid broader geopolitical shifts.
The Russian defence ministry confirmed Belousov’s arrival and said he would hold talks with North Korea’s top leadership and senior military officials, and take part in ceremonial and commemorative events.
Belousov described relations between the two countries as having reached an “unprecedented high level,” praising what he characterized as deepening cooperation. Both sides emphasized political and diplomatic coordination, defense and security collaboration, and the potential expansion of economic and trade ties, though no concrete agreements were publicly detailed. Officials framed the engagements as efforts to strengthen bilateral relations amid shifting global dynamics and increasing geopolitical pressures.
Kim Jong Un highlighted the value of cooperation with Russia, particularly in areas of strategic and diplomatic coordination.
