Iran Oman talks focus on mediation

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Muscat to discuss regional developments, mediation efforts and initiatives aimed at ending ongoing conflicts. State media released pictures and video of the meeting, held at al‑Baraka Palace, where Araqchi outlined Iran’s perspectives on the US‑Israeli war with Iran and praised Omani support for dialogue and stability. Araqchi argued that a prolonged US military presence undermines regional security and urged Persian Gulf states to adopt collective security policies free of outside interference.

The visit followed Araqchi’s return from mediation talks in Pakistan as efforts to revive diplomacy showed limited progress: a ceasefire has paused full-scale fighting but no final agreement has been reached, and planned US envoy travel to Islamabad was cancelled. The conflict, which began with US‑Israeli strikes, has caused heavy casualties, disrupted energy markets and heightened tensions; Tehran has largely closed the Strait of Hormuz while Washington maintains a blockade of Iranian ports. The Omani Sultan emphasized prioritizing diplomacy and mediation to find sustainable political solutions and reduce the crises’ humanitarian and economic impacts.
