Qalibaf rejects U.S.-Iran deal report
Iran’s speaker called reports of a US deal false and politically motivated
Majlis speaker Mohammad‑Baqer Qalibaf dismissed reports of a supposed Tehran‑Washington arrangement as misleading, accusing US media of recycling false narratives based on unnamed sources. In an X post he mockingly labeled the Axios report “Operation Fauxios,” saying such psychological operations follow a pattern of stories Iranian officials have repeatedly denied and which later proved wrong.
According to a report by Axios, the United States and Iran are discussing a proposed one-page memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing tensions and potentially ending the current crisis between the two countries.
Qalibaf framed the item as propaganda timed after what he called the failure of US efforts—“Operation Trust Me Bro”—during recent hostilities between Iran, the US and Israel. He reiterated Tehran’s stance that it will not return to negotiations while a US naval blockade persists, noting that Iran’s retaliatory strikes and tightened controls over the Strait of Hormuz compelled Washington to pause its initiative to reopen the waterway.
The speaker’s comments underlined Tehran’s rejection of media speculation and portrayed recent reporting as part of sustained attempts to influence perceptions amid heightened regional tensions.
