Airstrike hits mosque in Iran
At least three civilians were killed and about a dozen injured
At least three civilians were killed and about a dozen injured when an airstrike struck the Grand Hussainiya mosque in Zanjan, northwestern Iran, during Muharram mourning ceremonies, provincial officials said. The raid, attributed by Iranian sources to US‑Israeli forces, struck around 5 a.m., collapsing parts of the mosque and damaging an adjacent administrative building, guesthouse, library, bank and nearby shops. Rescue teams recovered three bodies from the rubble and treated multiple wounded on site; two seriously injured were hospitalized and others were taken to nearby medical centers. Emergency responders from the Red Crescent, fire department and municipal teams conducted search‑and‑rescue operations, using heavy equipment and manual clearing to search for survivors.
Authorities reported that 14 people received care at the scene and that rescue operations and damage assessments are ongoing. The strike follows an earlier attack in the same city that killed four civilians and injured 16 after a US‑Israeli strike on an apartment building, according to local officials. Iranian statements framed the incidents as part of a broader campaign of intensive US‑Israeli strikes since late February that have hit both military and civilian sites across Iran; Tehran says its armed forces have responded with waves of missile and drone strikes against US and Israeli positions in the region.
