Tehran says strikes hit homes

Iranian authorities say US and Israeli airstrikes struck residential neighbourhoods in Tehran, killing civilians and causing extensive damage as rescue teams sifted through rubble for survivors. Footage from the capital shows collapsed concrete, twisted metal and shattered glass near Nejatollahi and Haqqani streets, with firefighters, search dogs and emergency crews deployed to recover the injured and dead.

Tehran accused the United States and Israel of deliberately targeting populated areas, saying strikes hit homes and civilian infrastructure and calling for international investigation and accountability. State media reported multiple casualties and widespread destruction in the affected districts; officials described the incidents as violations of international law and labelled them potential war crimes.

The claims come amid an intensifying regional conflict that Iranian authorities say began after US strikes on Iran, including an attack that killed the country’s supreme leader. Iran says the broader campaign has caused significant national casualties, and Tehran blamed the latest strikes for adding to more than 1,300 deaths nationwide since late February.

The United States and Israel maintain their operations are aimed at degrading Iranian military infrastructure and preventing further attacks on their forces and partners.
