Protest held at DePaul University
Students rally over discrimination concerns
Palestinian students and supporters gathered outside DePaul University’s Lincoln Park Student Center in Chicago for a press conference and rally protesting alleged suppression, discrimination and harassment of Palestinian students. The demonstration took place near the statue side of the building at 2250 N. Sheffield Ave, where participants held signs and banners and filed discrimination complaints with university authorities.
Speakers at the event recounted personal experiences they described as biased treatment and inadequate responses from campus officials. Organizers called on university administrators to implement clearer protections for Palestinian students, improve complaint-handling procedures, and ensure a safer, more inclusive environment. They framed the action as part of wider campus activism over Middle East issues and warned that further measures could follow if their demands are not addressed.
University representatives acknowledged the protest and reiterated a commitment to fostering an inclusive community, saying all allegations are taken seriously and will be reviewed under established procedures. Officials encouraged continued dialogue and engagement with student groups as part of the response.
The demonstration remained largely peaceful, with no major disruptions or arrests reported. Observers noted the event underscored broader tensions on U.S. campuses, where debates over Middle East politics have increasingly driven activism and controversy. Organizers and university leaders said they would continue to monitor developments and engage in discussions aimed at resolving complaints and addressing concerns about student rights, free expression and institutional responsibility.
