Multiple scenes leave community in shock and mourning
At least eight children were killed and several others wounded in a series of shootings across multiple locations in Shreveport, Louisiana, law enforcement officials said. Police responded shortly after 6 a.m. to a reported domestic disturbance; investigators later determined the incident involved at least 10 individuals across four separate scenes. Seven children were found inside one residence, and another appeared to have tried to escape via the roof, authorities said. The victims ranged in age from one to 14 years.
Following the shootings, the suspect attempted to flee by carjacking a vehicle and drove into neighboring Bossier City. Officers from Shreveport pursued the vehicle into Bossier, where three officers discharged their firearms and the suspect was killed; the officer-involved shooting is now under investigation by the Louisiana State Police. Investigators said they believe the suspect was the sole shooter. Police warned that processing the multiple crime scenes would take several hours and described one location as “incredibly gruesome.”
Officials said some of the children were related to the suspect; the names of victims and the suspected gunman have not been released pending family notification. Multiple victims were transported to hospitals; the condition of the wounded has not been confirmed. Local authorities and first responders mobilized to secure the scenes, assist survivors and support grieving families.
