Qalibaf warns of rising fuel prices
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf criticizes Donald Trump after failed talks
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned Americans to “enjoy” current gasoline prices, saying they will soon look back nostalgically on $4–$5 per gallon, after the United States announced plans to blockade the Strait of Hormuz. Qalibaf’s remarks responded to President Donald Trump’s order for the US Navy to block Iranian ports following failed high‑level peace talks in Islamabad.
Iran's Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who led his country's delegation along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, blamed the U.S. for not winning Tehran's trust despite his team offering "forward-looking initiatives."
Earlier, each side blamed the other for the failure of the talks to end six weeks of fighting that has killed thousands, roiled the global economy and sent oil prices soaring.
The talks, which followed the announcement of a ceasefire, were the first direct U.S.-Iranian meeting in more than a decade and the highest-level discussions since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The United States and Iran have failed to reach an agreement after high-level negotiations in Islamabad collapsed following marathon talks that lasted more than 20 hours, leaving key disputes unresolved and deepening uncertainty over the fragile ceasefire.
